8/27/2012 Ridgewood Spartans Cross Country Coach's Recap Farmington Invite at Farmington High School with representatives from 11 or 12 schools
Varsity Girls --Runners included Katie Stevenson, Kendall McKie, Emily McDowell and Marissa Underwood. We were not able to have a complete team so no results there.
Coed Open - boys run the usual three miles and girls run 2 miles. Boys start three minutes ahead of the girls and then they finish together. Two of our girls who ran in that race placed in the combined top ten and won a medal--Kallie Esp and Madison Miller. Other runners in this race included Kyle Ford, Tristan Akers, John DeSutter, and RJ Dearmore.
Varsity Boys: Overall team 2nd Place--First place was Mid County. This is the first time we have won varsity team trophy. Two years ago our Fresh-soph boys trophied at the Monmouth Fresh Soph meet--but this is number one for our boys. We had three medalists--Jonathan Walsten 6th, Dylan Brooks 8th and Chris Bowles 9th. Other members of the team included James Brooks, Jason Beam, Anthoney Brown and Daniel Urbina.
We are very excited!

9/4/2012 Ridgewood Spartans Cross Country Coach's Recap Galesburg Invitational was rescheduled to Tuesday Sept 4 due to poor weather conditions. To have two meets in three days canceled due to weather condtions is extremely rare! On a hot, humid day all ran well with several girls completing their first three mile course. Dylan Brooks placed 30th out of all runners and earned a medal. |
9/8/2012 Ridgewood Spartans Cross Country Coach's Recap First to the Finish Invitational, Detweiller Park, Peoria. This huge event with races in all three classes hosted over 5000 total runners across the morning. The Girls and Boys teams raced first thing on a cool clear morning. All runners ran their personal bests in races with approximately 500 runners in each. The team enjoyed a stop at Knoxville Square for some well deserved food and down time. |
9/10/2012 Ridgewood Spartans Cross Country Coach's Recap Monmouth-Roseville Fr. Soph Invite, Monday, Sept 10. Eleven of our Freshmen and Sophomore boys and girls competed in this event with eight other area schools. Athletes ran a tough and hilly course and did very well. 9/22/2012 Ridgewood Spartans Cross Country Coach's Recap Kewanee Invite - Due to Homecoming Activities, only six boys ran in the Varsity Boys Division. Overall the team was 5th out of 9 and in the mix with Mid County, Sherrard and IVC. Jonathan Walsten, Dylan Brooks and Chris Bowles were in the top twenty finishers and won trophies. Jason Beam ran a personal best of 19:13 on the three mile course. Anthoney Brown and Tristin Heady rounded out the team |
10/1/2012 Ridgewood Spartans Cross Country Coach's Recap Erie Meet - Jonathan Walsten 13th Place. Team over all 5th place for boys. At 11 middle school students from the two schools ran as Ridgewood Middle School Cross country in a one mile race. Erie-Prophetstown has always hosted a one mile run for middle school students. Over the years this has developed from a fun run for middle schoolers to get their feet wet and be introduced to the idea of cross country running. Each of the participant received a Ridgewood Cross country shirt to wear in the meet and keep! The following 6,7, and 8th graders participated in the race and then watched the Varsity races: Daisy Johnson, Mabel Losey, Madeline DeSutter, Carlie Barman, Julia Nail Renee Fortino, Tim Heady, Sam Johnson, Andrew Hand, Jack Bumann, and Keegan Brown. All did a great job and we look forward to their involvement in future years! |
10/4/2012 Ridgewood Spartans Cross Country Coach's Recap Lincoln Trail Conference Meet - Needless to say this meet was hit by thunderstorms so race time was delayed. We ended up running both boys and girls together with very little warm up for anybody. We spent lots of time on the bus or shivering! Competiton was very tough in both the boys and girls division. Jonathan Walsten placed 10th and was awarded "All conference" Honors. Several runners did run personal bests at this meet: James Brooks, Emily McDowell, Madison Miller, Tristan Akers, John DeSutter, Kyle Ford and Daniel Urbina! Unfortunately we have been really hit by injuries and illness. Several runners did not participate in this meet due to illness and terrible conditions which would not help the situation.
