Welcome to Cambridge Superintendent's Page!
IT'S GREAT TO BE A VIKING!

The end of the first quarter is right around the corner and what a busy beginning of the school year it has been! First of all I would like to thank all of you for your support of Cambridge Schools it is very nice to know we have your support as we work to educate the children of Cambridge. This has been demonstrated with the building of the slides in August thanks to a number of volunteers, the attendance at the open houses, and the support you have all shown with the many different sporting activities. A number of things come to mind regarding the school year which I would like to take the time to share with you. First, I value all of the opinions that were shared at the August 29th community forum. I and the Cambridge School Board truly valued the thoughts and opinions that were shared regarding the direction Cambridge Schools are headed. If you missed this opportunity you will have more chances in the future to share your ideas with the School Board and Administration. Also it is with great excitement that the School Board elected to begin the process of installing a geothermal system in the Cambridge Elementary School. We are planning on beginning this process next June after school is out. I would also like to recognize the Cambridge School Board members during National School Board Day which is November 15, 2009. These members include; Steve Evans, President, Mary Richter, Vice-President, Dianne Jeffries, Secretary, Karin Brink, Blake Reed, Breanna Leander, and Chad Humphries. These seven people work very hard in making the decisions that impact all of our children and hats off to them. Secondly, a number of new things have been implemented in the district; first the new computerized lunch system which enabled us to serve your children more efficiently. We have also implemented the QuickContact system of calling parents to let them know of key events and closures during the school year. Please also remember to check your school calendars for early outs and other scheduled events. Finally, the teachers in both schools have been using the SmartBoards the district purchased, this is a multi-media tool that enables students to be more engaged in the classroom. Finally I would like to congratulate all of the students, coaches, and parents for their support of the sports coop with AlWood. This has allowed us to begin new sports; cross country and to support our existing sports also. The students have done a fantastic job getting to know each other and gelling as a team. I would like to also congratulate the parents for their support of the program through the Spartan booster club and through the purchase of Spartan Apparel. There is still opportunity for anyone to join the booster club. Please contact the school for more information. As always, thanks for the opportunity to serve you and your children. Please contact your child’s teacher with any concerns you have. Also don’t hesitate to call the Principals or myself with any questions you may have. I hope you all have a wonderful second quarter of the school year and remember; “It’s Great to be in Cambridge!”
